Sci-Fi investigates..what a joke.

I watched this show on what should have and could have been great..looking for Bigfoot.Well I was truely dissappointed,to put it mildly. It seems their so called team is closed minded and already have their opinions on the subject they are studying.

I caught a re-run of this a couple of nights ago.

I thought it was interesting how they took a good look at the evidence they had to work with, vis a vis the plaster castings of footprints. The analysis showed the presence of details that 99.995% of the hoaxers out there would probably not think to add, such as the presence of skin ridges and signs of long-healed scarring. Now, of course, anyone with the time, funds, and motivation would probably know to add those details.

This episode sparked a discussion with H- (a friend of mine who was hanging out that night, and knows quite a bit about primate behaviour) in that the methodologies the Bigfoot researchers used were flawed. The local researchers the Sci-Fi Channel's team hooked up with can apparently imitate some, if not all of the vocalisations reputed to be from Bigfoot in the field, but if they have any idea of how to use them and why, then it was probably edited out. Calls used to establish territory can result in either a challenge for that territory ("It is not yours, it is mine!") or no response as the other specimen leaves the territory for its own (the "Oops, my bad" response). If there is another call that could be associated with "Sorry for intruding" I do not know.

Another possibility are mating calls, which would not be responded to by another specimen of the same sex, only by a member of the opposite sex (which could get very interesting very, very fast).

Such are the results of editing footage to fit into a certain timeslot, one supposes.

Sci Fi Investigates

By EEKlectic on October 26, 2006 - 12:17pm

Did anyone watch the show about the Mothman??? That was FREAKIN cool! I kept thinking how alike the Chubacabra descriptions are to the Mothman descriptions. There must be a link there.

I really don't get the Men in Black thing. Any comments?
