It's never easy. Here is some info I got when I had the laser done to quit smoking.

Within 20 minutes of smoking that last cigarette, the body begins a series of changes that continue for years. These are some of the benefits.

After 20 minutes:
Blood pressure drops to normal rate
Pulse drops to normal rate
Body temperature of hands and feet increases to normal

After 8 hours:
Carbon Monoxide level in blood drops to normal
Oxygen level in blood increases to normal

After 24 hours:
Chance of heart attack decreases

After 48 hours:
Nerve endings start re-growing
Ability to smell and taste things is enhanced

After 72 hours:
Bronchial tubes relax, making breathing easier
Lung capacity increases

After 2 weeks to 3 months:
Circulation improves
Walking becomes easier
Lung function increases up to 30%

After 1 to 9 months:
Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath decrease
Cilia re-grow in lungs, increasing ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs and reduce infection
Body's overall energy level increases

After 1 year:
Risk of heart attack decreases by 50%

After 5 years:
Lung cancer death rate for average smoker (1 pack per day) decreases from 137 deaths per 100,000 people to 72 deaths per 100,000 people

After 10 years:
Lung cancer death rate drops to 12 deaths per 100,000 people, almost the rate of a non-smoker
Pre-cancerous cells are replaced with healthy cells
Other cancers (such as mouth, larynx, esophagus, bladder, kidney, etc.) decrease

All benefits are lost when you smoke just one cigarette a day!

My Hubby and I quit two years ago on Valentines day.My Main motivation was my Fathers massive stroke.Even after that my Dad still smoked and did so until just this year.He quit in april after my Mother had a small one.
Sadly he passed away last week at the age of 59.Waay too young. For myself I want to live for a good long time.I`m not going to let cigarettes rob me of that.

I quit smoking June 2002.

By Underdog505 on September 15, 2006 - 9:58pm

I quit smoking June 2002. The smokes were making me feel sick after years of my pack a day habit. I was a little miserable for about 2 months but after that, i don't miss them at all. I can smell cigarrette smoke on people about a mile away. If I am in a bar, I can barely stand smelling that damm smoke.

I could not imagine smoking now after 4 years. My grandafter died of lung cancer when I was 11 years old. My entire family quit smoking that day. It took me a little longer to figure it out.

Good luck to ya. You can do it if you want to.

I quit August 27, 1997 after

By Moofies on September 14, 2006 - 8:48pm

I quit August 27, 1997 after smoking 2-3 packs a day. Went cold turkey. Never want to repeat that experience. You will not regret your decision so hang in there it does get easier. Drank gallons of water and chewed lots of ice.

I quit May 14th after 10 years...cold turkey! You know what did it for me? The almost 5$ a pack it will be going to in Texas. I was a 1 pack a day smoker and I couldn't justify 150$ a month for cigarettes. Good luck and keep an eye on your weight...it will sneak up on you.
