Crikey! Not Steve Irwin?

By Nathan at September 4, 2006 - 4:30pm | General

Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter - conservationist, daredevil, television star - he loved flirting with danger around the world's most deadly animals.

After years of close shaves it was a normally harmless stingray which finally took his life. The stingray plunged a barb into Irwin's chest as he snorkeled in shallow water on the Great Barrier Reef. The 44-year-old TV personality died almost instantly while filming for his eight-year-old daughter Bindi's new TV series.

I can't even begin to tell you how sad I was to hear about Steve Irwin's death. Some people thought he was a nut, some thought he was an actor, I thought he was a man who truly loved what he did and wouldn't let anything stop him.

A week ago someone asked me what I would like to do besides go on a really big investigation. I told them about the only thing they could offer me to keep me away from a cool ghost hunt would be the chance to go on an outing with the Croc Hunter.

I will truly miss watching Steve Irwin on TV, and am very sorry I never got to meet the man. He was what we all strive to be, the best at what he did.

He is survived by his wife Terri, eight year old daughter Bindi and his son Bob, two.

Some Thoughts On Steve Irwin......

By ScottL on September 6, 2006 - 7:17am

I have spent a couple of days trying to think of something to say about this. To be quite honest I have been in shock since I heard this news very early Monday morning after a night of ghost hunting. Hearing Nathan say:

"A week ago someone asked me what I would like to do besides go on a really big investigation. I told them about the only thing they could offer me to keep me away from a cool ghost hunt would be the chance to go on an outing with the Croc Hunter."

That was like an echo of my thoughts. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love and respect the animal kingdom, and it has been a dream of mine to go on safari also to see the beautiful creatures that help keep this planet spinning everyday. This is what "The Croc-Hunter" was able to do everyday, and I envy him for that. I think the 44 years that Mr. Steve Irwin graced all of us with his presence were prolly more exciting and fulfilling than the 70 or 80 years most everyone else has.

"The Croc-Hunter" was a true conservationist who respected and loved every creature he came in contact with. I was watching Steve’s interview the pricks over at CNN were replaying with Larry King and Steve said something to this affect after Larry asked Steve if it is true he trusts animals more than humans:

:: Raising his fists :: “Yes!! I believe that if you are well researched and prepared for the animals you are going to be dealing with you will be fine. The animal is not going to just turn around and stab you in the back. I can’t say the same about people though.” Right on man, I almost cried when I heard that.

I have to say that 2 strange things happened to me, one a day before Steve was killed, and one on the day Steve was killed.

1) Amberrose and I went to the Detroit Zoo over this past weekend, a place I have not been to in the better part of about 25 years. I was shaving and it just popped in my head…”Hey Babe….let’s go to the zoo!!”

2) After hearing the news of Steve’s death earlier that morning on Monday, I was combing the internet to find a nice pic of Steve to put up on the Ghostly Talk out of respect and to much my surprise found out that Steve was born on February 22nd, 1962. I was born on February 22nd, 1975. Yup, I tripped out.

Steve showed his love for our planets creatures every day to millions all over, his excitement was infectious, and he could make a person laugh all at the same time!! I can’t count how many times I have done my “Croc Hunter" impersonation in conversations, at parties, on Ghostly Talk. We would all crack up and I think Mr. Irwin knew it made people laugh also, he never changed, it was who he was, and he was proud of that. If it was all an act he sure had me fooled!

In closing though, I have seen some mixed opinions on this subject in the last couple of days, for and against "The Croc-Hunter’s" cause. Here is my opinion:

”Mr. Steve Irwin was an enigmatic character who made me laugh, helped me learn, put a smile on my face always when he would say “WOOHOO!!”, and touched my heard with his kindness and generosity towards the creatures of our planet. If I could talk to his wife Terri, and his 2 children Bindi Sue and Bob Clarence, I would say: “Be proud of Steve for who he was, because he was larger than life. Steve had more love in his thumb than most people can muster up in a decade for things and beings he could not verbally communicate with. Steve did not die in vain, he is responsible for many young people rethinking about this planet and its inhabitants as not just perishable things and beings, but with a new sense of respect and love.”

"May your soul rest in peace mate and may your love and compassion ride with us on all our journeys…." -Scott L.

Croc Hunter

By GRANITE STATE P... on September 5, 2006 - 6:54am

He was a neat guy, and very genuine.
I hate to hear of anyone going so young, especially someone who has young children.
Sad news, It's a real shame.
