Gettysburg Story

By Grim Grinning Ghost at August 27, 2006 - 2:13pm | Paranormal Experiences

In June of 2005, I took my father-in-law, grandfather, and uncle to Gettysburg. My grandfather is a huge Civil War buff and has never been there. I have been there a number of times and was the acting tour guide. I have taken a number of Mark Nesbit's Ghosts of Gettysburg tours on my previous trips. However due to the fraility of my grandfather, I knew that it would not be possible to take him on a walking tour. However I did get a hold of a copy of a cd Ghosts tour that we took from the comfort of our car. The cd tour took us all around the town of Gettysburg and the battlefield itself. It told various ghost stories about various stops along the way. During one of the last stops on the battlefield an incident ocurred. It was dark and we were near the large Pennsylvania monument. My father-in-law noticed a light coming from the top of the monument. I concluded that it was a reflection from nearby carlights. He disagreed stating that there were no cars in the vicinity. It could have been a reflection from the moon. However, the moon was not out that night. There was no internal source of light in the monument. This is an incident that is still talked about in my family. It's rather funny, because I am the one that is fascinated about ghosts, but I'm being the doubter.

lights at gettysburg

By teakeh on September 5, 2006 - 7:02pm

Hi grim grinning
I experienced something at gettysburg similar in 1985
I am canadian but have lots of realatives in the philly area
Our holiday falls on July 1 not july 4 as in the US
I had taken my first wife and relatives to king of prussia shopping mall which is very near the battle field.
I didn't want to shop with the women so I thought I would check out the gettysburg site by my self to kill some time
I avoided the parking lot and regular area and just walked out by myself. It had just stopped the light rain and was now very overcast.
This was 2:00 in the afternoon with very grey overcast sky but what was wrong was the ground was too iluminated ... it was too bright to match the weather. That was all ... just too bright it didn't seem right.
I didn't think it was anything paranormal just maybe something geographic or weather related.
After picking up the women from shopping and getting back to philly I told my uncle.
Now I'm very sceptical and my uncle is the most grounded and serious man I've known. He calmly explained to me that in the early afternoon of July 01 (not july 4) about 60,000 northern and southern soldiers died on that ground.
I don't know what I saw but I looked it up and historically that is the time and date when the most soldiers died in a single US battle.
just thought i'd share this
