The Buzz of White Noise

Over the years I'd heard so many people in the paranormal field talk about their overwhelmingly negitive reviews of the movie White Noise that I gave up my desire to see it.

A few weeks ago I found myself responding with great venom when someone asked me if I'd seen it. "Oh that piece of shit movie?! It's a bunch of CRAP, it's an insult to everyone of us who does get legitimate EVP and all who work in the field of the paranormal!!!"

Does anyone else see the flaw in my thinking?

So I got the blasted film last night, sat down in my comfy chair and tried my best to pretend that I'd never heard a single complaint or negitive word about it.

I tried to find the good in the film, I tried to be fresh-minded about it all but after the film was done here is what I concluded.

I'm bothered by the near lack of emotion from Michael Keaton's character, the clothes were ugly, the sets were ugly, the people were boring to look at and watch going thru their uninspired paces.

They killed off the only truely interesting and lovable character (the paranormal specilist)almost right away and never really quite explained who or what did it, altho I suppose it was these three "demons" that showed up in the end.

I always have a problem with any media that depicts paranormal investigation as being patently dangerous and I think I actually ground my teeth when the phrase was uttered "never take EVP alone!" GARRRR!!!!

As the plot moved into the pier sets it became at least interesting and darkly atmospherist to watch. The drippy black and blue scenery gave me the slimey creeps and helped somewhat make up for where it lacked (everywhere mostly).

All in all it was one drippy abandoned pier building away from me writting whomever delivered this tripe to us, the movie going public, to demand the two hours of my precious life back.

Now, without any doubt in my mind, I can confidently say to the world that White Noise is an afront to the paranormal community and the world at large.

Good attitude, bad movie

By Doug on July 27, 2006 - 11:32pm

Tushy....you had a GREAT ATTITUDE about this! You decided to let what others said fall by the wayside and were determined to make up your own mind about the film.

This film--as you found out--is just incapable of capturing a good review. It let you down just as it let others down...so at least it's consistent!

Ah, there's a good thing to say about White Noise: "CONSISTENTLY disappointing!"

:)
