Dowsing rods? Yay or Nay?

i was sceptical but an old gentleman from an east coast fishing town taught me how to make/use and explained how they work to me
He explained that anything left in one place long enough has it's atoms align themselves with the earths magnetic poles.
When the earth is disturbed by moving water or recent digging the N S magnetism of that material is different from the background material.
Similarly lost items would stand out against the magnetic orientation of where it was left.
His explaination was eons ago humans could sence this as a survival tool (some animals still do) but now we need the assistance of rods as antenia.

I hope you spend time to do a real review of double blind test regarding dowsing. In fact, there is a $1 million prize for anyone proving what they claim with dowsing. 100's from around the world have tried and all failed. Perhaps you could be the first.

As with anything when investigating paranormal phenomena you should use more then 1 item. As a previous poster mentioned, dowsing rods were used to locate underwater sources. So, how are we to know that we aren't just picking up water underground? If we use another type of EMF detector along with other types of equipment then we can hopefully prove it's just not water. But for our team and for me personally, I don't rely on dowsing rods by themselves.

I used some while walking through Glastonbury Abbey which apparently sits on ley lines. I was walking in a straight line like I had seen some other people doing and when they got to a certain spot the rods went crazy. So I tried it for myself and they did the same thing.
There's got to be something that makes them work.

I had a couple of people in my hunting group that used the rods on occasion and it's discussed in a training class that IGT provides for its members. I've never used them... no particular reason why I haven't except maybe that I'm not the most graceful gal in the bunch and I would worry that the rods would be moving around crazily.

but I wonder...how do you know what you've really found if you are using the rods? I mean, M.A's family uses them to find water. How do ya know if you've spotted a great place for a well or if there is a family of ghosties standing on that spot? Is it really possible to know what you've found without others around to document, take pictures, dig, whatever???

I picked this little bit of skills from my father and his family. My father uses dowsing rods when looking for springs on his farm. My mother's uncle who built homes for a living would use them to find a perfect spot for wells.

Even my brother and myself use them, with relatively high levels of accuracy.

My father was walking around after he had built his house using dowsing rods and kept drifting towards one spot. He told everyone that if he could He would put a well at the corner of one of his barns. He instead put it about 5 feet over and he now has a 65 foot well that is about 10 feet from the surface with water during the rainy months or the dry season. Also, the neighbors ask him to do it for there houses. He had "witched" a well for one neighbor 5 years or so ago. told him the spot, when the well diggers got there they said it would be a bad spot. the dug 3 spots! down to about 75 feet in the ground... nothing. They called in another well company and he dug where my father had told them.... (right in the middle of the other three spots mind you) and they had flowing water year round.

I have met people that use dowsing rods to find artifacts and minerals, I have never tried this myself.
