American Haunting

By asayne at May 8, 2006 - 3:27pm | General

Want to get some feedback on the movie An American Haunting. To tell the truth I was really expecting a cheesy Hollywood fright film. I was plesantly surprised to see a movie that actually had some thought to it and didn't depend too much of scare tactics. I thought the ending was actually fulfilling and not canned as most of the supernatural movies that are out there now. I don't want to give away the ending thoug so I want to hear from people that have seen the movie. Also I felt that the movie was accurate to the Bell Witch story. I'm from Tennessee and I've heard the story my whole life. Let me know what you think.

American Haunting

I'm going to have to review the story again but I don't remember the conclusion even being mentioned in the real haunting, did I miss something? Up till the end I thought the movie was very good. The ending was, I thought, disappointing. The friend I went with was not familiar at all with the Bell Witch story and she loved the movie and thought it was very scary.

The Ending

By asayne on May 15, 2006 - 10:36am

I was disapointed by the ending at first myself. Once I sat down and thought about it though I came to like it. Its right up the alley that Doug and Scott have been talking about with some of their guests for the last month or so. Namely, that poltergeists are manifestations of the living and nothing to do with Ghosts or the deceased. (Although I don't know about changing into wolves though.) I have actually read that one of the theories as to the cause of the Bell Witch Haunting was that John Bell had abused his daughter and that the poltergeist was a manifestation of her psyche. I really did not see the movie as ending up going down that route so I was really surprised by that ending.

My Take on American Haunting..

By Gorilla72 on May 11, 2006 - 4:25pm

You know I have to say, yes it was on track with the urban legend of the Bell Witch, but to me it jumped around a little too much, not a bad movie but not worth the download...errr I mean ticket, wait for the DVD. =)
