Unusual sighting video.

By The Doctor on October 31, 2006 - 1:56pm

This is the video in question.

To reply to a comment tagged to that video on the site of origin, I do not think that a few garbage bags taped together would work because they would be too unstable as a structure. The plastic is a bit too flimsy to tape well. It is entirely possible, however, that someone set one of these loose, which would be more likely as a hoax, as well as irresponsible because such a structure set loose without control could interfere with air traffic overhead.

The resolution of the video is such that I could not discern any signs of control mechanism, such as propeller assemblies or strings (played back at 100% magnification for the duration of the video).

Given the evidence at hand, it is more likely than not, I think, that this is a hoax or someone's solar UFO from a distance.

How would you video a UFO?

By Doug on March 23, 2006 - 10:02pm

It appears that folks are not prepared for the eventuality of having to record an unknown object.

Perhaps there should be some preparedness training of some sort? You know, like fire/tornado drills.

If you were to see an unknown object in the sky and had the opportunity to take video of it, what kinds of things would you make sure you do while recording?

Things I may do if folks think these may help...

1. TALK through the event, noting any and all things
2. Put something of known size and distance in the frame...for example, hold up your hand and stick your thumb up...your arm length is known as is the width/length of your thumb (could help some with perspective?)

What else can be done??

Tips when recording or photographing an unknown object.

By The Doctor on October 31, 2006 - 2:07pm

Usually, a coin (like a quarter) is used to provide a sense of scale when photographing something like this.

Note any sounds heard during the sighting.

Note sky conditions at the time, such as the presence or absence of clouds, recent rain (evaporating water?), and sunrise or sunset.

Note proximity to an air field of any kind to include or rule out reflections from aircraft.

If there are others present, ask for confirmation.

Keep the camera focused on the target as much as possible. Unnecessary movement of the camera could be construed as an attempt to conceal wires or other mechanisms.

IF,and this is my

By Poppy on March 24, 2006 - 9:18pm

IF,and this is my opinion, you get the chance to shoot a UFO on video or with stills(I personally would be screaming and shaking)try to get something that someone can get a scale from, and try to get the pics and video as clear as possible while maintaining all the details you can get.Look around for anything like other aircraft or people that might be seeing this also. The reason for other aircraft is maybe they'll see it also and can verify the sighting, and other poeple is the same.Look to see if theres anything around that could possibly be the cause of your sighting(an RC airfield,or kids with kites or maybe a pile of trash,or even a birthday party..ballons.).
Get all the info you can and names of others who saw it.mark you location so you can return to the EXACT same spot in the future if you need to.
