Monsters of the Psyche

When I was a kid, there was this guy living across from me who suffered from schizophrenia. He was considered harmless by everyone in the neighborhood because all he did was walk up and down the street, night and day, talking about 'them'.
I was about eight years old at the time and I was already into the paranormal, having been raised in a haunted house, and babysat by a very superstitious grandmother. So, when he mentioned, 'them' to me one sunday afternoon, I asked him who 'they' were.
I know Schizophrenia is a bona-fide disease but sometimes I cannot help but wonder if some sufferers are anything but delusional. What if they are just seeing something we can't?
I only came to his conclusion after he began to tell me about a group of 8ft tall, pale beings with huge heads and slanted black eyes, who were always roaming around, under some cloaking mechanism, watching people.
He said they were everywhere, always observing and that some had wings but most did not.
He told me he used to see them as a child and assumed they were angels of a sort, but as he got older he saw that some of them did more than observe...some of them actually did things. Horrible things. Like causing car accidents, kidnapping small children.
Maybe he was delusional, but from that day forth he made me question the validity of some forms of psychosis...are the people we consider crazy really crazy or is we who are just too blind to see what's going on around us?
I still wonder about this. He still lives across the street from my family. And everytime I visit, he is still walking up and down the street lamenting, only this time he is not saying anything about 'them'. He just stares at absolutely nothing and shakes his head.
