EVP's in recording studios?

By Max Szabo at February 13, 2006 - 12:34am | General

Just a thought, but if you were a talkative non-corporeal entity, wouldn't you consider dropping in on an environment that records hi-fidelity audio many hours of the day, in multiple channels, and one that is stocked with creative (if drugged-up) people that work into the early hours of the morning?

Now, although I believe that the first EVP's were found on far-flung tape recorders intended to (only) capture birdsong, surely there must be some examples of voices cropping up in (say) Classical, Jazz or even Rock recordings.

Of course, a sound engineer might think that the voices are the result of sound-bleed from somewhere about the sound booth, but surely they would notice if the voices don't seem to match anyone present, and especially if the tape being used is brand new.

BTW, I also have heard that EVP's have been captured on analogue tape recorders that were loaded with power and tape, but were not actually running/turning/recording in the normal sense when they were left overnight in a graveyard, and yet still recorded EVP’s. (In other words, an unused tape was left overnight in a graveyard, and never moved over the recording heads of the tape deck, and the next morning the blank tape was played, and still voices were heard.) Corroborations or thoughts, anyone?
