Not getting payback for opening doors

By xanadu1215 at March 4, 2009 - 7:56am | General

Hi

Just a comment on Scottl's interview last week.
He mentioned that when he opens a door for someone and
they don't thank him, it upsets him.

I've been studying human nature for 54 years now, ergo my age: sheesh
And have been trying to understand our development and perhaps what
lessons we need to learn.

One lesson I've learned is that, if something upsets us, then don't
blame the other person. It is within you.

Using our Dear ScottL as an example.
He opens the door for someone. Then does not get a thank you and gets angry.
In that case, he did not open the door for them, he opened it for himself.
He wants the thank you. His anger or being upset is from not getting what he wanted.

If you truly want to open the door for someone then regardless of their reaction,
you shouls accept it becauase your goal was to be nice. It is their choice as to
how to react. In fact, if you get angry they don't say thank you then are you
actually upset because you didn't control them. Perhaps?

The anger should trigger that this 'experience' is something worth exploring and unsderstanding
in yourself.

So I say as a compliment to Scottl, "open the door without expectations".
That will release your inner tensions and help you find the true meaning in your actions.

Hugs
Steph

Scott L. Is An Ass.....

Absolutely brilliant observation Steph. It really made me think!! I will admit that this is probably the case.... I expect courtesy from people though, and there would be the controlling aspect. I cannot make everyone be courteous who I come in contact with on a daily basis. I agree with you totally and will keep this in mind now as I go on about my day! :) Thank You again Steph.... :)
