Parnormal State show

By caniswalensis at January 2, 2008 - 1:36pm | General

I have seen 4 episodes of this show so far, and I am not at all impressed.

The members of PRS strike me as sincere, caring individuals. They seem like the type of people you would want to have for friends. I do however feel like they are quick to head down the "paranormal path" without thinking critically about what they are being told & experiencing. Even if this is a result of editing a 30 minute show, it is still a failure. They edit their show in a way that makes what they are doing look dubious. That is a disservice to their clients and reflects badly on the paranormal community at large.

I could be wrong and would like to hear from others about any positive points for this show.

Thanks, Canis

P-State

I think you guys all nailed it, it's a very weak interpretation of paranormal study, and these investigators look very inexperienced, hell they're kids, we are inexperienced in everything in life at that age no matter how much you study.
It's a product to cash in on the paranormal market like a lot of other ghost shows, (and produced poorly I might add).
That said, not all programs are like this, but most are, it is the problem with being on tv, it adds another potential motive for results (i.e. ratings)
Don't be fooled, the shear nature of television production calls for many retakes, bad acting, and things done just for the sake of post production. It's up to the research teams who get signed to these shows to stand up for the study and not fold to the pressures from producers to produce results based on ratings and shock value.
As a researcher, I see more credibility in these teams that come up empty handed most of the time, because we all know that's the reality.
But then they would have to focus on their investigation techniques and tools to generate interest, and that's way more work than coming up with ambiguous 'evidence' of the paranormal.
We are putting the mainstream to sleep with this stuff, time for something new and Real!

I would have to agree with

By Vampyre on January 21, 2008 - 11:52am

I would have to agree with everyone on this... this show is just off to me...

# 1 I don't like the fact they go in thiking "this place is haunted.. or this place has a demon"...

#2 I don't like the fact they have to "drive out" what ever is there...

#3 What's up with them having demons on almost every case? I've been doing this for a few years, and I have YET to run into a demon.. Maybe they just dont' like me :)

you're right, I think they

you're right, I think they just go into "it's paranormal"mode from the min they walk in. They all seem like they believe that they are going ot be "warriors" and that as soon as they pull up that the spirits are waiting for them. I am sorry but I have trouble with a show that uses mediums as their main source of information, to much like a certain tv show, all that is missing is a blonde that keeps screaming.
I am sure they do a good job investigating, and I am sure they believe that what they find is really paranormal, but I have trouble with it.I think it is more like paranormal entertainment, not true investigating.

Screaming Blonde!

By caniswalensis on January 15, 2008 - 2:27pm

Thanks for putting your opinion in the ring. It seems you were bothered by the word "warriors". I was also. I think it betrays a little bit of Walter Mitty style self deception.

BTW, I love to watch the "screaming blonde". My friends and I get together to watch the show and bust on it. The investigators are totally unequipped mentally to handle seeing a ghost. It is hilarious to see them scream, curse and even cry because one of them bumps the other. :-)

Oh Most Haunted is one of my

By Poppy on January 15, 2008 - 2:57pm

Oh Most Haunted is one of my favorite shows. and every now and then they actually do get some evidence, but it is lost in all the other stuff going on.
They are now using I cameras and even the team is starting to look a little more professional, but I have to say, they are correct in saying it is merely"entertainment". do a google search for most haunted and see what all you get.
I am hoping that maybe Paranormal State changes directions and starts coming into an investigation with a more open mind, and don't jump on every noise as a demon or a spirit.

Fire When Ready.....

By caniswalensis on January 3, 2008 - 1:28pm

HA HA! Well, it is a strong opinion. It is an honest one, though, and I hope not a rude one. I'll happily take hits for it because I am really interested in getting other viewpoints on this show.

I love shows about all sorts of paranormal topics, and I want to like this one, but it has really struck me wrong. I hope no one thinks I am disrespectful of their opinions if they do like it.

Regards, Canis

Nothing Rude At All....

By ScottL on January 3, 2008 - 3:00pm

There is NOTHING disrespectful in your opinion at all!! If someone is offended by your opinion of the show because they may like it, they should quit following the paranormal immediately.... :)
