Podcasting

Hi I'm a very busy person who rarely has time to be on the computer researching things. However I want to learn about podcasting, and how it works, what I need etc.

Is it just a download into an mp3 player, and is there software which can be set to automatically download podcasts directly to my macintosh, or ipod or what? There seems to be a cloud around this subject. I'd like some definite information if anyone cares to share.

BTW guys I love the show, I have been listening for a few years now and went out with 8bit once while in Houston and he got some good pics of orbs etc.
