What do you think about children who are interested in the paranormal and parents supporting the interest?

I really hope that this doesnt sound off the wall here but i am 30 and since i was a wee child..heheh i have had a strong interest in the paranormal and have always wanted to be involved with serious groups and do the confrences and ghost tours but my children and home life dont allow much time for that, i became a mom young so i never really got out there and did these things, the closest i get really is listening, watching and researching things about the paranormal. I do talk about this and share this interest though openly at home and my 11 year old son has picked up from an early age my interest and curiosity.. my question is.. am i wrong to study this with him and weve talked about together going to ghost hunts and confrences together when hes somewhat older than he is now.. anyone out there want to share thier feelings and maybe tell me if people ever bring young folks out. my son is bright and mature for his age and we are close, this is something we share and we spend time together studying.. he would absolutely love to be involved in these festivals and confrences..is this allowed. can children partake.. anyone who has an idea of the point im trying to make..help me out..heheh..

I wish more moms did that!

I'm glad you have been doing that! Teaching your kids about this kind of stuff will make them less afraid especially if they're indigo children and don't understand what's going on. If your son is really interested in it now then he probably would have been anyway later on so it's good that you got him into it early and teach him the stuff you've found out.

I think it's great! I have took my oldest son who is almost 17 out on investigations with me, he loved it. I have also talked about the paranormal alot with my 13 yr old son. He has used my emf meter, and has been to a cemetery with me, it didnt bother him a bit! It's good that kids learn up on this stuff. What if they were plaged themselves with a paranormal situation?!?.. At least they will be in the "know" and not be frightened out of their minds lol.

2 thumbs up for you my dear!

I absolutely can relate to you lady! I also have been fascinated with the paranormal since I was a kid and would love love love for my kids to be too. I have boy/girl twins who will be 5 in July and I plan on being open with them too. They say kids can see/hear/feel things that adults cannot cause we where filtered as children to not believe in these things and I am going to try real hard about not filtering for my kids so that if they can see/hear/feel thing now it they will continue to in the future. My kids are a little young to grasp the concept of ghosts/spirits now. My question is how do you actually educate them on it with out freaking them out?? That is my only hang up.

ok cool, i dont feel like im doing something wrong.. well i cant really say how it started..but i can guess (hehe) I would be reading books or watching my programs or documentarys and i guess children really do pick up on everything because he just started saying things to me that showed he was interested.. it actually started with him because he loves science so he'd watch and read books on bigfoot and the lochness monster and things like that and i thought how great it was that he wanted to study things and figure things out and form his own opinions, i LOVED that and encouraged it fully.. then as he got older wed go the library and pick out books and dvds and documentarys together and wed talk about them and ive told him about expierences ive had that led me to my conclusions and beliefs and it naturally progressed to spirits and things of that nature, i guess i would say that right now the little ones are to small to get the concept but around i think about 8 he really got into being really curious. i think if you watch the documentarys and you have the books around the house, if you show the interest , they will and let them come to you with what they think and feel and just try to show them that its ok to explore! I think if you take some of my direction start with small things that are just different. I remember when he was little we would watch documentarys and read books on the ancient pyramids and the giant squids in the ocean , see i hope im making sense but if you open up their minds with science, this will be a natural progression i think.. hope we can talk more! thank you for your input.. !!!! ps..I always went off my childs maturity level.. what i as a parent felt was appropriate for him, i hope my other kids are interested to but i dont push it... good luck soulsearcher! i am open to help more if youd like.. OH.i almost forgot to mention that when i was a kid my mom was the kind of my mom i think i am.. open minded. she never said. oh your to little to watch this or that, when i started watching (and i love) the haunted america and those programs on travel channel and anything i can basically get my hands on.. wed sit and watch together, she did that with me. if it wasnt obscene or violent and i was interested, shed say go for it..so i agree about filtering..i think because my parents didnt thats why i have this intense passion for this field and respect for it. ;0)
