A couple pictures from Egypt

By MagnusApollo at February 3, 2006 - 10:42pm | Ancient Mysteries

Thought I would post a couple pictures from my trip to Giza.

Here is a picture of the Great Pyramid. To help gain a perspective, the lower left area of the pyramid. That little blue thing. is a bus!

By the way this picture is actually from my balcony of my hotel room. To prove this fact, here is a picture from inside the hotel room to show you the pyramid.

Pyramid question

By DarkSoulEater on February 5, 2006 - 11:36am

that is a question I asked

By MagnusApollo on February 5, 2006 - 11:51am

That is a question I Asked of everyone I saw, and the answer was "It's just always been there". None of the workers near there said that they are restoring the point. And that was rather apparent by the piles of garbage left around the pyramid site. The rocks and stones peeled from the side of the structure are left literally where they laid, and there is just garbage thrown everywhere around the base. Most egyptians I had talked to really didn't care about the pyramids, (aside from the ones gaining money from tourists) "they should just knock them down and build over them" was one comment I had gotten more than once.

The structure on top, It's like telephone polls placed together to a point. It's rather deciving how big it really is, untill you compare it to other objects around. They do have a lazy light show at the pyramids frequently, it might be something to do with that. but sadly I wasn't able to gain any real information about that.

Sadly one of the cameras I had used to take pictures of the tomb of the Great Pyramids Engineer had simply vanished upon returning to the US. That was something extremely impressive. Most people rarely go to it, when ironically it's only about a few hundred feet to the left of the great pyramid. But, it's actually below ground level, and no one walks over there. We slipped the guard 20 egyptian pounds. (about 4 american dollars) and he unlocked it and let us go in and investigate. That was impressive. All the carvings and such were there. You could walk up and touch them. He even gave us a tour of the family tomb. But, for some reason THIS camera of all things vanished. (I had used disposable ones for fear of pick-pockets and not wanting to loose my digital cameras).

I bet there were secrets hidden there that photos would have revealed. Too bad they got your camera. Sounds like you had a great time though, my jealosy is palpable.

it really was impressive

I would love to go back there. I was there at Giza for a short while, then scuba diving in the red sea (to study with some marine biologists) But, I would SOOO go back there in a heart beat. even considering that the place i stayed in (Sharm el Sheik) was the the area that was bombed last year. I think I have photos of me standing in the restaurant damaged in the bomb blast. But egypt is an EXTREMELY friendly country. It's not overly expensive. I stayed in a 5 star hotel that cost me what a cheap hotel would here in the US. I am seriously considering a return trip there, this time with egyptian expert(s) of some sort. Someone that would allow us to get into a few areas normally off limits (of course if you smile enough and offer a bit of cash the guards will let you in whereever). I'll look around for more pictures and post them. I do have a handful from the sphinx and the smallest pyramid. Also, I think there is a couple of me riding a camel through the sahara.

Camel tours

By Doug on February 5, 2006 - 1:51pm

Sign me up for the camel tour.

I want the one where you overnight at an oasis or something.

I'd love to gaze at the stars for hours and hours on end from somewhere out in the desert.
