HELLO GERRY, TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION , NO I DON'T THINK IT IS A POLTERGEIST, SIMPLY BECAUSE THE TERM POLTERGEIST IS , A FORCE OR ENTITY THE MOVES OBJECTS THROUGH SPACE( ONE PLACE TO THE NEXT), AND OUTSIDE OF DOORS SLAMMING, AND PICTURES SHIFTING ON THE WALL, MAYBE EVEN OBJECTS COMING UP MISSING FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME AND THAN OUTTA NO WHERE THERE THEY ARE IN PLANE VIEW, WITH NO REAL REASON FOR HOW THEY GOT THERE, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT THESE THINGS CONSITUTE A POLTERGIESTS, I DO FEEL HOWEVER, THAT SIMPLY THERE IS LIFE AFTER DEATH, AND PEOPLE( MAYBE FOR TRAGIC REASONS, OR OTHER)ARE LEFT IN AN ALTERNATE DIMENSION, SOMEWHAT BASED ON FREQUENCY,FOR REASONS OF GUILT,SHAME,FEAR, OR BASICALLY BECAUSE GHOST(IF YOU WILL;I PREFER EARTH BOUND ENTITES AS A LOGICAL TERM)DO NOT EVEN REALIZE THAT THEY ARE DEAD, AND SOMETIMES WHEN (LIVE) PEOPLE MESS AROUND WITH THE SUPERNATURAL ,YOU GET THERE ATTENTION, REMEMBER THIER DEAD AND HAVE NO ONE TO TALK TOO, SO WHEN THEY THINK SOMEONE NOTICED THEM( IN WHAT EVER WAY?) Sorry, you didn't approve of a column i wrote, i really wasn't tring to get folks of sheep to atend my surmon, was attempting to advise another on a similar case, and how it all came about, it was more for him as general info. than me blowing my horn about"hatman(which is a widely given name to something many have experienced, not my first choice)"and as far as EVP goes outside the fact of having directally seeing "hatman" and chasing down the shadowy figure through a graveyard, and at that instant on the tape getting the response "i did it," and later when seen again" i did it again" both of (tapes) i have, there is nothing in relation, sorry if you got any mixed signals.

...EVPs. There is definitely something to them but I'm not yet sure what it may be. I myself, relatively new to this ghost hunting stuff, have quite a few already. I also have some pictures I can't explain away.

But I've yet to have that one experience that would totally convince me. I have no real trouble in believing in residual hauntings. I think there is much about the scientific nature of energy that we don't truly understand yet.

It's the interactive or intelligent hauntings that pique my interest. And I have to admit that some of the EVPs I have seem to be very much interactive.

Hi Gerry, In my opinion , the electronic voice phenomena(EVP) is usually the first signifigent found that a majority of ghost hunters (purposelly or accidentlly)encounter, of course there are always things or curiousities that accure in the beginning that make one seek for evidence of ghost, or other paranormal phenomena.but your right, there is no doubt that there is something more to them, then simply writing them oof as, accidentl radio transmissions, or telephone freqencies; i mean i have a great deal of EVP's (and photos)that have been collected over the pass three years, and there are too many of them that appear to contain conversatoins between entities as to what we are doing at that moment in time, like for example; me,my buddy,and a mutal freind of ours(female) who we had let in on our newly found phenomena at the time(this was our third trip out to the cemetary)made a round that evening and almost from the get go there were names( wayne dorsey rice) singing in the background( sounds like it could be an old black man)and other evp's;about half way through the tape, while it was perfectlly quite, this almost phased(meaning like the effect one would use on an instument)voice comes in "they're out to get something", while at the same time ,in a lower tone of voice(you would have to listen close due to the other voice or you couldn't notice it)right before the phased voice, almost on top of each other(normal ,but deep tone)there is "God Damn"... now judging by the response they give, i would say that "they're out to get something" wasn't directed towards us but to another force, about what we were doing there, maybe not even meant for us to have been heard at all.and there are many other tapes with different but the same subtancual message to them, but it would take forever to describe each one, that was the offical trip that gave us a little something more than a sounds like tape( and even though we have collected a number of great tapes, since then, this one remains to this day one of the best).they say it is rare to get one(evp) out of several tapes,but we get disappionted when that's all we get (that's how spoiled we are). i can tell you this about evp's; according to a book i read on communication with the dead by some professor(don't remember his name, cause i let someone read it, and didn't get it back,and it was almost three years ago)that they know for a fact that spirits (ghosts)work on frequency,( which is way they are able to past through walls, etc..due to the rate at which there molecular structure moves(based on frequency); this is also why they appear to us mostly in (what we call) glimpses,it is far rarer to see a apparition head on, we more often than not see them outta the corner of our eye,or fast( to fast to track)moving from area to the next(in our case from head stone to head stone)(although i have seen my fare share of the holy grial apparitions; but still want to see more)Now, basded on this they also tell us that they know for a fact that they can and will munipulate sounds(at the right freqency) to transpond what they wish or accidentally say that a recording device will pick up.and let me tell you this, it's no accident that we can record voices on tape, i know that ghost hunting is a fairly new(55 years) science,since the first evp was documented, but has been going on since before thomas edison invented the phonograph(which he invented stictly for the purpose of communicating with the dead; not to play music, that was actually someone elses idea based on edisons inventionand: that is a fact)as well the same can be said for photos;we theorized, if they can munipulate sounds, why not objects, a poltergiest by nature moves objects from one state(place) to another, so we experimented with smoke photos( i know ,it sounds retarded)aiming a digital( or regular )camera into a dark background( usaully the night sky does well)we would blow smoke(cigars work best they put out the thickest smoke)into open space and snap the shot; but first( and this is important, no matter how nutso it sounds)request that any entities present who would like to have there photo taken are more than welcome, or something to that effect, you won't believe your eye's man i'm telling you.we've gotten all kinds of things from letters of the alphabet(which stand out with a glow to them, faces that appear to have been right there(smoke causeing features to be present), to (and this is the craziest of all ) a naked(hot)long curely blonde haired,thin female, (who we think) that we come to know as joey.they don't look like smoke photos though, they look like actual photographs, the only problem with those are that they don't print,but are as visual as any on the display of the digital camera.yes i understand that seems too far fitched to believe, but i swear it's true. we also just take random photos and get something called super orb contrails, which can appear in many colors( i've seen red, yellow,and green) ;i looked this up on several ghost sites when we first started getting them(thinking they were just some kind of glich in the photo)and they say (degreed professors of the paranormal) that this is the real deal,and the one's we have are far better than what i've seen on the web, hell i have one framed on my wall taken by my friend, swrilling next to me in the graveyard while i'm holding a pendulem attempting to communicate, and just off to the side of the contrail there's a redish blur, and under heavy scrutity (especially using the contrast contol opition on digital disc that you get after development) there is the face of an entity right next to me observing what i'm doing, it's a truly awesome photo.well gotta go, sorry to write a novel, but it so hard to explain in just a sentence, i'm sure you understand.

I've actually become bored with orbs. In fact, I write off the vast majority of mine as dust, insects, light refractions, etc. Still, I do have some that intrigue me. I also have some interesting smoke photos although, due to the human mind's tendency to make sense out of chaos by 'recognizing' known images in random patterns, I also discount most of those.

EVPs are a totally different story for me, though. I wouldn't call them the Holy Grail of paranormal research (I reserve that title for a full bodied apparition) but they are certainly up there as far as evidence is concerned.
