Hello from a newbie

By Gerry Bacon at February 5, 2007 - 2:42pm | Introductions

Hello all,

My name really is Gerry Bacon. I don't use a screen name.

I'm a 52 year old truck driver who is unable to work due to an on the job injury so I'm in a holding pattern. I live in Warren, MI, have been married for 28 years and have five children.

I developed an interest in cryptozoology quite a few years ago and have been a member of Cryptozoology.com for at least five years and a moderator for most of them. I've done some field work, although not much but am currently working on a habituation case here in MI with one of the bigger local names.

I contributed a chapter to Jerry Coleman's (Loren Coleman's brother) second book, 'More Strange Highways' and have a short crypto based fiction story coming out in an anthology being put together by Craig Heinselman. It should be out this spring.

I got interested in the paranormal this past year and started doing investigations in July. I belong to two paranormal groups here in MI; SEMPIS, which is a Meetup Group and S.T.O.R.M., Spirit Trackers Of Rural Michigan. Some of our bigger investigations have been the Main Art Theater in Royal Oak, MI, the Holly Hotel in Holly, MI and the Idle Hour Yacht Club on Harsen's Island, MI.

I'm an unabashed skeptic but NOT a disbeliever. I've already captured several things I can't explain.

Besides writing, ghost hunting and cryptozoology, my other great love is music. I'm a bass player and am working hard at putting together a band.

So, that's me.

Hello sir. You may play

Hello sir. You may play hell getting anyone to even acknowledge your preence here. At least that's been my experience here in the early going. So let me be the first to greet you, an warmly as well. Welcome my friend! Sounds as if you and I have much in common. All that you mentioned of yourself, skepticism included, I give a hearty amen to. It's possible that my skepticism maybe what's shunned folks here? (Termed as a question purposely). I do hope to run into you again and welcome spirited debates on many subjects! (Pun intended too).

for the warm welcome, Digital! So I take it this board doesn't have a lot of activity? That's a shame.

I'll continue to check in for a while and see how it goes. I hope skepticism isn't the reason for shunning anyone. I think most people have no real idea of what true skepticism is. Most hear the term skeptic and automatically think you're a disbeliever or debunker and that's simply not true.

I tend to look at evidence with a skeptical eye and work very hard at debunking any evidence I get. Orbs, for instance, are usually tossed out by me, although I have several which I find strange and unexplainable. I also have at least two photos I can't explain and quite a few EVPs. By trying very hard to debunk most of my evidence, what I'm left with, the stuff I can't explain, becomes even more compelling than if I had just accepted all of it as paranormal.

I really have no problem accepting residual hauntings as I believe there may be some unknown law or principle of physics to explain it. My real interest is in intelligent or interactive hauntings. These show an awareness by a sentient entity. Some of my EVPs, for instance, seem to be responses to questions asked.

So again, Digital, thanks for the welcome and I look forward to more debates and discussions also.

Gerry

It's always good to see a new face around GT! Sounds like you and I have a lot in common too! I'm the Oklahoma field reporter for this crazy show. I've been hunting bigfoot down here for a couple of years and even have plans to keep looking this spring. Have fun here on the boards and enjoy listening to the shows. Sometimes the boards do get slow, but hey..we're all out ghost hunting and such! Have a wonderful day!

Hi Kristy...

Sorry I haven't responded sooner.

What sort of luck have you had in your bigfoot hunting? I work with someone who is nationally recognized in most bigfoot circles here in MI. We're currently investigating a reported habituation case here, although we've not had any luck at all. I'm not sure there's any 'there' there, as they say.

I'm looking forward to sharing information with you. Take care.
