Here are some noteworthy and recommended books that have recently been added to my paranormal bookshelf:

Legend Tripping by Jeff Belanger
Part of Course Technology's Picture Yourself series, Jeff's new book is an introduction and invitation to go "legend tripping" -- to explore ghosts, cryptid creatures, UFOs and other unexplained phenomena in your own locale. There's no need to travel great distances to explore haunted locations, and you don't need to be a UFO expert to investigate sightings of flying saucers, says Jeff. There are probably plenty of paranormal legends and stories right in your town. Jeff's book explains how you can get started.

"To this day, I have no idea what happened to me on a particular night a few summers ago and I still question my sanity," reports Sarah. "On a very humid August night, my mom and I were driving down a back country road. We had just crested a hill and began driving down the other side when our headlights washed over what looked like a person walking down the center of the road. The person was limping away from us, its face the opposite direction. As we neared even more, we realized to our astonishment that it seemed to be completely covered in hair...!" What happened next absolutely terrified Sarah and her mother. Read the rest of her story.

Earth pole shift

Some interesting links I've found this week:

  • Poltergeists! -- Poltergeist activity is probably the most misunderstood form of paranormal activity, this article says, at least in conjunction with haunted houses.
  • Spontaneous Human Combustion -- A good examination of the phenomenon, the possible explanations for it, and some of the notable cases. (Some graphic images.)

You've heard about many Bigfoot sightings, but less known are the "close encounters of the third kind" (contact) or even the fourth kind (abduction). Yes, people have reportedly been physically attacked by Bigfoot - and even abducted by the creature! Read more.

This video clip from Animal Planet about the Southern Sasquatch, or Fouke Monster, presents a discussion of the theory that the creature could be the large ape-like gigantopithecus, which lived in Asia up until about 100,000 years ago. The theory is that these creatures might not have gone extinct, or that evolved descendents of them could have migrated to North America across the Bering Strait. It's a reasonable theory since the descriptions of the hairy 8-9-foot gigantopithecus and sightings of Sasquatch match closely. What do you think?

"I decided to take my wife and kids for a vacation," says Jonny. "We went to visit my in-laws who have a cabin in the Canadian Rockies. One night around 10 p.m., we were sitting around about to go to bed when the lights gave out. I heard rustling outside the cabin and something brushed the side of the wall by the living room. Pretty creeped out, I grabbed my flashlight and headed out to the generator...." What Jonny saw out there will make your skin crawl. Read the rest of his story.
