"My two friends and I decided to go hiking and camping in a dense wood near my friend Josh's house," reports Kenna. "As we were driving on an old dirt lane to get to the trail, we stopped at an old gas station. As Josh and Jason were fueling up, I wandered into the store part to grab some munchies. An elderly woman at the counter eyed me suspiciously and asked where we were headed. I told her there was a trail back in the woods where there were supposedly ancient-looking pyramid-type buildings made out of stone. The old woman narrowed her eyes at me and shook her head and her next woods chilled me to the bone: 'There's no reason for anybody to go back there!'...." Maybe Kenna and her friends should have listened to the old crone because, well... read the rest of the story.

More reasons to fear the woods:

Some interesting links I've found this week:

  • Nasca: Spirits in the Sand -- They have been explained as roads, irrigation plans, images to be appreciated from hot-air balloons, and landing strips for alien spacecraft. Since 1997, however, a Peruvian-German research collaboration has been examining the meaning of the strange designs.
  • Learn Psychic Abilities -- This guide offers an introduction to the different ways you can practice and improve upon your psychic abilities, covering several different techniques.
  • Bigfoot and Its Many Faces -- This video presents an assortment of different Bigfoot type creatures and other primates that are mistaken for a sasquatch, plus a short clip from a 2009 search which included bows, structures and huts.

There's an ongoing debate about the powers and realities of the Ouija board. Essentially, there are three basic positions:
• It is inherently dangerous, can open portals to evil entities and should never be used.
• It is only dangerous if used with evil intent, but can be a useful tool for spirit mediumship if used properly and with good intent.
• It is inherently harmless and has no real powers of mediumship for good or evil; its effects, if any, are only psychological in nature.

Which is true?

Readers Respond: Is the Ouija board a harmless toy or dangerous portal?

Most of us are only aware of the werewolf through films, TV shows and perhaps novels, but the tradition of the werewolf reaches back into prehistory, and similar creatures are found in cultures around the world. Why does the werewolf resonate so profoundly with us? We spoke with Dr. Bob Curran, author of Werewolves: A Field Guide to Shapeshifters, Lycanthropes, and Man-Beasts, a brilliant and fascinating look at these creatures and the meaning they have held for humankind through the ages. Read the interview.

"My mom and I also saw a black-eyed man in Wal-Mart. It was in Eureka, Missouri; we live only about 10 minutes away," reports Tilted Halo. "It was last summer and we had been shopping and heading for the front to check out when this spectacularly tall man passed us going the other way. I looked at his face and freaked out because his eyes were all black...." But that wasn't he only thing weird about this guy. And the sighting was followed up by something suspicious. The "miracle at Fatima" is arguably the most well-known apparition of the Blessed Mother. Her appearance to three shepherd children in Portugal in 1917 was, according to many witnesses, accompanied by several unexplained events, including a shared vision of the sun dancing erratically in the sky. During these appearances, "Our Lady" bestowed three prophecies. The first two were disclosed in the early 1940s, but the third and final prophecy was not to be revealed until 1960. But it wasn't until 10 years ago -- in May, 2000 -- that the long-awaited "third prophecy" of Fatima was finally revealed by the Vatican. For some, it was a relief and for others an anticlimactic disappointment... and it remains a controversy to this day.

"Before the video was posted, it was presented to engineers, medical doctors and various other professionals from technical industries," the video description claims. "Each given the circumstance could not come up with explanations for what was presented to them." Watch the video, then post your opinion in the form of a vote:

Photo: Neil Sandbach They say seeing is believing. And while in this day of digital image manipulation that might not be as true as it once was, these photographs are considered by many to be the real deal - photographic evidence of ghosts. Faking ghost photos through double exposure and in-the-lab trickery has been around as long as photography itself; and today, computer graphics programs can easily and convincingly create ghost images. But these photos are generally thought to be untouched, genuine portraits of the unexplained.

Illustration: Rob MacGregor and
Bruce Gernon In an area that stretches from the Florida coast to Bermuda to Puerto Rico, the infamous Bermuda Triangle - also known as the Deadly Triangle or Devil's Triangle - has been blamed for hundreds of shipwrecks, plane crashes, mysterious disappearances, craft instrument malfunctions and other unexplained phenomena. Whether or not phenomena of a paranormal nature are taking place there has been a matter of debate. Those who are convinced something odd is happening, as well as researchers who take a scientific view, have offered a number of explanations for the mystery.
